My name is Maia Mocanu, and I am a visual artist from Romania whose practice focuses primarily on painting and sculpture.

I began practising art in Romania at the age of seven. At 16, I moved to the UK, where I continued my artistic education during the final two years of secondary school. I graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, with a degree in Fine Art and History of Art.

Although my practice was initially centred around painting, during my undergraduate studies it expanded into a mixed-media approach through experimentation with metal sculpture, ceramics, 3D printing, textiles, tufting, and video.

These mediums allow me to explore different forms of materiality and to build relationships between image, object, and space.
